when it’s too wet to shoot

I was in Ottawa for a few days late September, and was really hoping to get some beautiful eastern Canada fall photos. Well, the weather did not cooperate at all, but on my last evening in the city, I decided to chance it anyway. By late afternoon, my shoes were soaked and my so called weather proof jacket was starting to feel the same, so I ducked into this interesting looking shop on Bank Street. I have thing for old cameras, and the collection of stuff in this store brightened my day. The owner, Tom was humoring me with my questions about my mom’s old folding camera, and we eventually found a reference catalogue with the very model. Mystery solved. Then Tom let me try his treasured old rectilinear Nikon lens on my camera, and I took this shot. I was literally standing just out of this frame, that’s how wide this thing shot! It was past closing time by now, and Tom encouraged me to keep shooting, despite the crappy weather. And I did. It was a great photography day for me, no great shots (other than this one) but great fun. Thanks, Tom. (www.cameratradingcompany.com)

From the early morning preparations, to the spectacular seafood supper, this was a great cultural experience for us. Thanks to Florence and Malcolm for making us part of your day. Traditions

This wedding was full of culture and traditions. The bride (and her maids) are professionally trained Ukrainian dancers who once danced with the Shumka dance troupe. The groom is Australian, with the love of the ocean and the land down under. The two cultural backgrounds melted together beautifully in this fabulous wedding celebration. The performance by the Ukrainian dancers for the bride & groom literally took my breath away. I felt privelaged to have the opportunity to photograph this wedding and to have the chance so see so much pride in culture.

My family went hiking in Glacier National Park this summer, didn’t see any bears, but did share the trail with this mountain goat and her baby. Sweet! almost dropped my camera, I was so excited!

This industrial area provides so many interesting backdrops, and you just never know when those trains are going to come through and make your exit a little more interesting! Thanks for going along with my ideas. More to come in Sept.

This Friday afternoon shoot at the Ukrainian Heritage Village was perfect, we almost had the whole place to ourselves (even the mosquitos gave us a break). Looking forward to the wedding day for more Ukrainian culture, (and some Aussie too?)
